Defusing High Conflict Divorce: Legal and Clinical Interventions that work and those that don’t

This conference will provide insights into the relationship and interaction between the Family Court system and clinical services for high conflict families. The workshop will offer specific theories of high conflict and step-by-step methods for reducing or resolving conflict.
The morning session will examine the legal processes utilized in Michigan through the eyes of a family therapist. This presentation will highlight learnings from this model, and identify how collaboration between legal and clinical fields has been successful and where more work is needed. Clinical concepts helpful to both legal professionals and clinicians will be introduced in the morning session.
The afternoon session will focus on reviewing clinical theory and clinical interventions developed in Directive Family Therapy at the Michigan Family Institute. This presentation will be particularly relevant to direct service providers and therapists.

Objectives for Professionals

  • Expand the range of methods and services available for working with high conflict families
  • Learn new effective intervention skills and techniques for working with high conflict families
  • Learn new methods for collaboration between the Family Court and community and clinical services
  • Develop the skills that result from thinking through a lens of “process” vs. “content”

Certificate of Participation is given at the end of the workshop.
