Thematic Map & Release© is a powerful advanced practice intervention for helping trauma survivors resolve core beliefs. Healing Criterion D (PTSD, 2013 DSM-V) by challenging and addressing traumagenic perception is the guiding force behind this new and pivotal approach. Embedded in a Tri-Phasic approach (Herman, 1992) practitioners will implement Thematic Map & Release© while navigating

(1) Safety & Stabilization;

(2) Working through Trauma and,

(3) Reconnecting to meaningful activities in life. The program is built on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy foundation incorporated in an experiential training method.

Thematic Map & Release© is a core component of the Trauma Practice, Tri-Phasic trauma treatment model (Baranowsky & Gentry, 2015, 3 (Traumatology Institute) is the creator of Thematic Map & Release© (TM&R).

Dr. Baranowsky developed TM&R after working with a particularly distressed client who struggled chronically with the aftermath of severe childhood bullying. The client was plagued with negative beliefs about himself that had little to do with who he was in his life today or what he could become. However, his negative self-image was holding him back. He described feeling like he was in a constant torture chamber in his own mind.

This client led her to notice an interesting phenomenon in her practice. At times clients could resolve specific trauma memories so they were no longer igniting extreme distress. However, these same clients who achieved success in their trauma recovery would continue to struggle with negative beliefs about themselves or the world around them. It was not unusual to hear clients say: “I am not good enough”; I am not loveable”; “people will always let me down” etc. Typical trauma therapy approaches were not fully resolving these themes, cognitions or beliefs, leaving clients with terrible self-limiting internal dialogue.

Dr. Baranowsky recognized this pattern of negative themes in many clients and began a deep reflection and experimentation with interventions that could help clients move beyond harmful old beliefs. TM&R proved remarkably effective in helping trauma survivors get unstuck and move forward in life.

Many negative beliefs arise after experiencing significant traumatic events and may remain despite successful application of trauma processing exercises. Common themes might be “I am unloveable”; “I don’t fit in”; “something bad will happen”, etc. The problem is that these themes become the driving force in how people see themselves and approach their lives even when these themes do not truly fit who they are or even how they are seen by others.

Thematic Map & Release can you work with individuals struggling with negative beliefs that are powerful hooks to the past. Join Dr. Baranowsky in this profound TM&R workshop where you will learn to use this tool for disengagement from negative beliefs. This is an experiential workshop in which you will engage step-by-step in the TM&R process.
